Teaching and Speaking

I love to share the beauty of art and the world with others through teaching art classes or speaking about my art and story, especially faith art journaling.  I have been teaching art in one way or another for 20 years–in public schools (k-12), craft and scrapbook stores, private lessons, conventions, and in churches–to people from age 4 to 80.  I am available for individual work, workshops, classes, and speaking engagements.

Costs depend on the actual class and materials.  Please contact me for information.

I look forward to inspiring you and your people!

You can contact me at nicplynel@gmail.com to set up a time and class.

The following classes/topics are available:

Faith Journaling Introduction:  Using Art to Flourish Your Faith and Self–covers creating a faith art journal of your own in response to being in the Word of God.  Use watercolors, colored pencils, and some collage.

Faith Journaling 2:  Going Deeper and Doing More–learn how to take the collage another step, try new media, make a stencil, and more.

Prayer Journaling:  Create a portable war room!  Use a planner, sketchbook, etc. to add art on one side of the page and a record of prayers on the other by date.  20160131_080352

Canvases for Christ #1:  A Tree of Life–  I lead you through an acrylic painting of a tree and then we add a personal Bible verse or faith saying.  A wonderful way to connect with God, fellowship with friends, and create a canvas of praise to Christ for your home.

Canvases for Christ #2:  One Little Word–I lead you through a very expressive, very tactile abstract painting with layers of meaning.  In the end we add one little word (or a few) to help inspire you on a daily basis.20160120_13054420160120_130521

Greetings. Such lovely, prayerful work. As a “non-artist” I’m interested to know if you’ve ever created an online basic journaling class. I’m not familiar with all the mediums, just pen/ink and watercolor. I’ve been creating pages with zentangles and quotes from a 14th century theologian I’m studying as as meditative piece of this project. I’m writing haiku based on his sermons and it would be so wonderful to explore the colorful aspect of what I’m doing. I was inspired to take watercolors and create a card based on one of Meister Eckhart’s sermons after seeing your page: I am an echo of God. “Love you back!” I cried. Maybe there are beginner online journaling classes you could point me to, if you don’t teach online. Blessings!

Thank you Lee! I have a perfect solution for you possibly: I am also the illustrator and write a tutorial each week at biblestoriesfromtheheart.com Bible Stories from the Heart started as a 6 week Bible study of Exodus this summer. Now we do different verses each week. The study comes out on Monday, and my tutorial comes out on Tuesday. It is all FREE. Or, we do have workbooks and videos coming (October and November respectively). Each lesson I try to do something with the art and try to cover something a little different. You might really like those! I love what you are working on so far! You will have to send me some pictures. 🙂

By now, you must know how much I love your work, from my orders of your work Your website is beautiful, your art room, the scripture you pick, following your time each morning of devotions, and I could go on. and on, about everything you do. You are such a gift to others, and I am so happy to be a part of it. I have been a scrapbook-er for at least 24 years. I want to learn to watercolor so I can use in card-making and my scrapbooks. I consider you a mentor!

Can you send me a name of the colors and brands of the paint and brushes? I want to save myself from buying too much of the wrong stuff. I look forward to hearing from you.

You are so sweet! Thank you so much! Your words bless me so much! I can work on a list of colors for you soon. I use pretty basic colors and Windsor and Newton Cotman watercolors are my favorite tube brand and then Yarka travel sets are great. Their colors are sooo vibrant. I actually have an Amazon app that will link you to them at the bottom of my sidebar. I use just Master’s Touch watercolor brushes from Michael’s stores. I will take a picture and make a list of the sizes too. That might be a really good blog post for this week! Do you follow my tutorials on biblestoriesfromtheheart.com? Mine post every Tuesday. Blessings, Nicole
