This is from the story of the woman who washes Jesus’ feet with her tears and dries them with her hair. She had the attitude of a servant, the posture of one who knew her place at Jesus’ feet was out of honor, the emotion of one who had surrendered her life and faith in love.
Anytime I read the stories of people washing Jesus’ feet I am amazed. What an act! Think of washing someone’s feet you love now. Most nights I don’t want near my husband’s stinky feet! Think of washing someone’s feet that walked in sandals, in dust, all day, in the blistering desert heat. Yuck!
But this woman didn’t even hesitate. She knelt, and used what liquid she had, to cleanse away the work and pain Jesus may have felt. A huge kindness in a small act for the one who would show the greatest kindness of all. May we all do as she did.
