Moon and Stars

Just a fun quote to start the week.

Last week I traveled to Iowa with two girlfriends to do some antiquing/junking/treasure hunting.  We stayed with my family and I got the chance to show them some of the beautiful side of Iowa.  The one night my dad encouraged us to go out and see the clear sky full of stars.  If it had not been so darn chilly that night, I think we would have stayed out there gazing at them for hours.  It is so dark with no city lights, crisp and clear with no pollution and the sky is polka-dotted with millions of pricks of light.  It is gorgeous and awe-inspiring.

I originally found this quote when I was looking for inspiration for a bride.  I loved the concept that we don’t need the material stuff in a marriage.  It is the commitment to standing and enjoying the light and awe of love.  And sometimes that is hard–life gets clouded with pollution and swamped with light that drowns out the simple things.  It is about stopping to be together and just enjoy.  It is about keeping a promise to shine for each other.  It is about that forever quality of being in a very special relationship, especially when it is grounded by faith and the knowledge it can go on for eternity.

So tonight, find the light of a star–outside or the inside the one you love and enjoy it.

Affect the Day

Let’s go out and affect this day!  We can make the quality of it high–we can make it better, make it glorious, make it filled with love.  This is what we are called to do.

We cannot change other people’s reactions, attitudes, and behaviors–but we can affect them.  By being positive role models, by being cheerful, by sharing unconditional love.

There is no reason to worry–what will be will be.  We are provided for in huge ways.  We are going to encounter struggles, but how we deal with them is what is really going to make the difference.  We can sit and stew on them and ruin the moment that is right now, we can miss the beauty of the moment of right now and the wondrous things God is currently doing.  Or we can rise to the moment and enjoy it in all of its splendor.

We have been given Today.  We must make it the best possible we can in gratitude to God for giving it to us.

Go, Tell, and make disciples of all nations--spread the good news.

Let the Beautiful Out

Then the final step is letting all that beauty spill out on those around us.  What good does it do bottled up?  Like my art–at first I hoarded my journals and closed up my art and put it on a shelf.  But when I released all that color and started spilling it onto Facebook and Etsy and the blog–that beauty started flooding all over the place–and ya’ll blessed me right back.  And then my confidence grew.  And my light shined brighter and I felt God filling me with more beauty.  See how that happens?

How can you spill your beauty this weekend?  Through food, music, art, cleaning, flowers, gifts, listening, speaking, running…..?  There are so many beautiful moments in each and every minute.

Sometimes all it takes to spill the beauty is to notice it.  To open our eyes and see it.  To own it.  And then to share it with others.  God is constantly filling us with beauty. He is constantly filling the world with beauty.  May we all be blessed by its presence.

Beauty Begins

The moment we not only believe that He loves us but that God finds us beautiful is moment that His light starts shining through us.

For me–it is the moment that I accept He created me to be ME–not like anyone else.  And I can be comfortable and confident in that.

Confidence, comfort, joy –those are all desirable qualities–ones that draw others in.  There are so many “societal” and “cultural” ideas of beauty–but not everyone is drawn to the same things.  And often if the insides don’t match the outsides it doesn’t matter anyway.  God created different forms of beauty and different people to be drawn to those differences.  Just because a magazine shows one thing, doesn’t mean it is the rule!  I have struggled with having a body that would never show up in an ad, but my husband, kids and family seem to like looking at me just fine–short and curvy is okay in real life.  Short dark hair is beautiful.

So be concerned with your beauty, inner and outer–accept and embrace it and watch what happens.  The confidence that follows will draw more onlookers than you will ever imagine.  And God will be more proud of you than ever for giving credit to His design skills.

Comfort, Hope and Cheer

For me it can be hard to feel–not worthy of God’s love–but to feel worthy of being His messenger.  I often get caught up in doubting my skills, the depth of my surrender.

I don’t doubt His love for it was His love that lifted me from the pit of depression and kept me from doing anything permanent.  It was His love that led me to healing.  But often I still look in the mirror and see the shadows.  I wonder if others see my self doubt.  Because of course in those moments my brain tells me that no one else feels this way, that others are so liked by their peers that they do not doubt.

But then I remember GOD created me.  He created me beautiful in body and spirit to HIM.  That I bring HIM joy.  That when I am a messenger for Him that He finds my actions beautiful despite my skills or surrender.  He knows that being His messenger will only bring me closer to a more beautiful relationship with Him.  And that brings me comfort, hope and cheer.

I hope that you feel that comfort as well.  For He created you as well and those words above are true for you as well.

Holy Spirit

This song gives me CHILLS.  Every time.

Friday September 18th I was headed to my first big class–and teaching acrylic painting.  A little outside my comfort zone. And sharing my story–totally inside my zone.  LOL    It was crazy raining, I was running late, I was getting nervous and worried.

Then this came on the radio.

I already planned that I was going to open the class by holding our hands open and calling on the Spirit to fill us that night.  But at this moment, it was like God was reminding me in the sweetest, gentlest way–this is about calling on Him, on the Spirit.  As long as I did that God would take care of the class, He would carry every woman through the night, He would fill my words and teaching.

He did.  He changed the atmosphere.  I called on Jesus right there in the car and then we opened with that prayer.  I instantly felt His calm fill me, and the joy of worshiping fill me.

Ah, yes.  This is what deciding is all about dear friends.  When we ask, we receive.  Thanks be to God.

Confidence in Fully Loved

Ephesians 3:17-18 by Nicole Plymesser Nelson

Isn’t that verse fantabulous????

When we do His work, we trust in Him.

He builds a home in us and makes us strong.

And then we can be filled with this amazing confidence:  we are FULLY LOVED.  FULLY.

High, deep, long, short, colorful, black and white, soft, hard.  He covers it all.  We can find peace, calmness, and security in HIM.

Talk about a confidence boost.

If we have that kind of love we are invincible.  Oh, the things we can do inside that kind of love–the ways we can share that kind of love with others.

Gives me goosebumps just typing about it.

May we all be blessed and bathed in the confidence our Savior gives us today and all days.

God Makes Beautiful Things

God Makes Beautiful Things by Nicole Plymesser Nelson

Here is the song:  Gungor “You Make Beautiful Things”

I love, love, love this song.  It is very prayer, worship full.  One you just want to close your eyes, nod your head to the beat, and just breathe deep the grace of God.

This morning I heard Phoebe (my oldest) singing this song downstairs.  Her sweet little girl voice drifting up.  She had her headphones in (this song is on her Ipod shuffle) laying in her bed, just newly awake, repeating the chorus, “You make me new, you are making me new, you make beautiful things, you make beautiful things out of us.”

I don’t know if she purposely chose this song to listen to when she first awoke, or if it just happened that way.  But what a wonderful way to awake!  Can you imagine if we all started our day this way?  With the beautiful, the grateful, and newness of life in Christ in our hearts and minds?  She came up stairs today refreshed, smiling, and peaceful.  She filled her brain, heart, and eyes with goodness and you could see it spilling into her morning.

She is FULL.  And of GOOD things.

Oh, to have that beautiful fullness of Christ all the time.  That truly is beautiful. Because God did create us beautiful, His world is beautiful.  His love is beautiful.

Today I will follow her lead and be full in Christ..

More Value than Sparrows

Matthew 10:31 Greater than Sparrows

This sums up this week’s posts fairly well.  We are important to God.  No matter where we are in our faith, we are of great value.  We need not worry, just have faith.  We are beautiful in His eyes, inside and out.  When we have deep faith, follow His teachings, and humble ourselves to His greatness He will spare us from all evil.  In our endings, we will have a new beginning because of our value in His plan.  He is our God and Savior.

Clothed in Spirit

1 Peter 3:4 Clothed in Spirit

This is why we are complete on our own.  God created us with this amazing gentle and quiet spirit deep inside ourselves.  He created us to be precious to Him.  We are a pure vessel to Him, clothed in white-a bride to His bridegroom.  Our faith in Him complements every aspect of that soul.  Our prayers are beautiful conversation to Him, insight into our precious, fragile souls.  Here we can be pride-full; proud of the creation He made each of us, of how beautiful it is, of how amazing we each are in our uniqueness.  It is our souls that are perfect, beautiful, and wonder filled.  What a gift He has given us.  What a job we have to complement that soul with an equally beautiful life that is obedient to him in gratitude.
